Georgia football: Bulldogs trend for Texas A&M transfer CB Smoke Bouie, former 4-star in-state recruit – 247Sports

Georgia coach Kirby Smart and his staff have plenty of talent to replace after winning the College Football Playoff. But that was the case last offseason as well, and the Bulldogs still managed to repeat with a 65-7 win over TCU on Monday night. Now with star cornerback Kelee Ringo off to the NFL, Georgia is trending for Texas A&M transfer corner Smoke Bouie, a Peach State product who rated as a 4-star prospect in the 2022 class. Kipp Adams of Dawgs247 and Zach Blostein of Noles247 both placed Transfer Portal Crystal Ball predictions for the Dawgs to land Bouie.
Bouie, who once committed to Georgia while in high school played in seven games for the Aggies as a true freshman this past season, posting four total tackles with one pass break-up. Listed at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, Bouie is a bit on the small side for the position. Bouie committed to A&M in August 2021 as part of the Aggies’ No. 1-ranked recruiting class for 2022 under coach Jimbo Fisher, but the program struggled badly this past fall and missed a bowl game. Since then, a handful of highly rated Aggie freshmen have entered the NCAA transfer portal.
A product of Bainbridge (Ga.), Bouie ranked as the nation’s No. 46 overall prospect in the 2022 class, the No. 3 safety and the No. 7 player in the state of Georgia. Texas A&M lists Bouie as a defensive back, but he played corner for the Aggies in 2022. Bouie committed to Georgia in November 2020, decommitted in June 2021 and then committed to Texas A&M in August 2021. He signed with the Aggies in December of that year.
As a senior at Bainbridge, Bouie played both defensive back and wide receiver after having sat out his junior season while rehabbing a torn ACL and MCL according to 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins, who projected Bouie as a future second- or third-round pick in the NFL Draft. Bouie made 28 receptions for 578 yards and 10 touchdowns to go with two interceptions and two more scores on kickoff returns as a senior.

Bouie announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on Dec. 14.

“Aggie Nation — I want to express my sincere appreciation for Texas A&M University, Coach Fisher, staff, teammates and our passionate fan base,” Bouie wrote on social media when he announced he would enter the portal. “My family and friends have and will continue to be my rock for supporting me on this amazing journey. My recruitment is 100% open, and effective immediately I have entered the transfer portal. Thank you to my coaches for developing my strength, stamina and patience to grow into the man I am today.”
