More info Karim Benzema is hoping for a bumper pay rise and two-year contract at Real Madrid amid links with Premier League clubs Manchester United and Arsenal, according to reports in Spain. The Ballon d’Or winner is yet to extend his deal with the La Liga giants beyond next June and has been linked with a big-money move. United and Arsenal are both understood to be interested in signing Benzema if he becomes a free agent. The prolific striker can begin holding discussions with foreign clubs in January ahead of a free transfer in the summer. Madrid remain keen to extend the contract of the 35-year-old but there is distance between their offer and Benzema’s demands. There is apparently no evidence that talks are active, prompting speculation that he could depart the Bernabeu before 2023-24. Benzema wants a fresh deal that would take him until the end of the 2024-25 campaign. The former France international is also demanding that he receives a huge pay rise that would see him become Los Blancos’ highest-paid star, leaping above the former Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard.
