Newcastle, Everton and Leeds have all expressed an interest in the prolific Championship striker but will hold out for a much cheaper deal in the summer. Brereton Diaz has long been sought by top-flight clubs due to his impressive form in the second-tier. The 23-year-old has scored 10 goals across all competitions this season, adding to his 22 from the previous campaign. Blackburn are not keen to sell their star striker in January but would apparently do so if a £15m bid is received. Newcastle, Everton and Leeds are all said to be monitoring the player’s situation but would not make such an offer. That is because Brereton’s Diaz contract expires at the end of the season and the Premier League trio believe they can sign the former Nottingham Forest man on a free transfer. The player has not indicated that he intends to sign a new contract with Blackburn. JUST IN: Jose Mourinho could take new role to leave Pep Guardiola jealousThe Sun reports that Newcastle, Everton and Leeds will all battle for a free transfer for Brereton Diaz in the summer. He is likely to spend the remainder of the season in the Championship before moving before 2023-24. However, Brereton Diaz can speak to foreign clubs ahead of a potential summer move this month. Barcelona have previously been loosely linked with a deal, although it seems unlikely that they will sign a player with no top-flight European experience. Brereton Diaz shot to fame when he was surprisingly handed a Chile call-up before the 2021 Copa America. It was established that the former England youth international – who was then simply known as Ben Brereton – qualified for the South American nation through his mother’s family. He has scored four goals in 17 appearances for his country. That includes one against eventual winners Argentina in a World Cup qualifier last season. But they are unlikely to break the bank for a new addition. The Brazilian edition of Goal.com reports that Newcastle have made an approach for Fiorentina forward Arthur Cabral. The 24-year-old was prolific for Swiss side Basel but has not hit anywhere near the same kind of form since moving to Italy 12 months ago. Magpies boss Eddie Howe has said that any funds spent in January would take away from the club’s summer budget. The Saudi-backed Tyneside outfit could still be one of the most active sides this window, though, as they seek to continue their Champions League qualification chase.
